Yabuuchi-ryu
The Yabuuchi Kenchu school traces its ancestry back to Yabu Sōha, who had connections to the Ashikaga shogunate of the Muromachi period. Approximately 420 years ago, Hideyoshi, who had become the ruler of Japan, ordered Rikyu to revise and unify the tea ceremony etiquette. To this day, the school continues to preserve and pass down the tea ceremony methods inherited from its ancestor Yabu Sōha and Takenō Jōō as the ancient style of tea ceremony.
In modern times, Yabuuchi's tea ceremony style is referred to as the samurai style, and I believe this is because it combines elements of both shoin (study) and koma (small room) tea ceremony styles, which has continued to this day.

Associate Professor of the Yabuuchi School of Traditional Tea Ceremony.
From a young age, I participated in tea ceremony lessons held at home by my mother, who was a tea ceremony instructor. Growing up in an environment where the tea ceremony was an integral part of my life, I entered university and became a disciple of the Kogi-chado Yabuuchi school, which I continue to practice to this day.

*The tea room is located in a residential area, so we will provide the detailed address individually. The nearest stations are Sagami-Ono Station on the Odakyu Line (7-minute walk) and Machida Station on the JR Yokohama Line (10-minute walk).

Tea ceremony experience
We offer tours and trial sessions at any time, so if you are interested, please contact us in advance.
Trial lessons are held on regular lesson days, but we can discuss scheduling them on weekends.
Visitors are only allowed on days when lessons are being held.

Duration: 1 hour
Cost: 2,500 yen for the experience, free for observation.
Contents: Serving of matcha tea and sweets, and the opportunity to try making your own matcha tea.
Attire: You will be sitting in the seiza position, so please wear clothing that allows for easy standing and sitting. If you have difficulty sitting in the seiza position, please let us know.
